Assassin's Creed is an action-adventure video game series developed by Ubisoft. The franchise began in 2007 when the original Assassin's creed game was released which paved the way for numerous sequels, as well as a live action feature film and games available on mobile and tablet. It is no doubt that the success of the franchise is rooted in how Ubisoft listen to their audience in order to repeatedly create good quality media products that continue to engage their audience, as well as attract new people to the series.
On the official Ubisoft website there are opportunities for players of Assassin's Creed to interact with each other, as well as the game developers which shows that the company are interested in the opinions of players. They are willing to listen to the community that and their ideas about how their product can be improved. It also gives the developers an idea of what demographics their products are appealing to, most significantly in terms of age and gender.
Although the pegi age ratings for the majority of there earlier Assassin's Creed games are 18+ , the developers understood that a significant percentage of their audience were under the recommended age. To combat this, they produced games such as 'Assassin's Creed Identity' and the upcoming mobile game Assassin's Creed: Rebellion' with lower age ratings and less explicit content to appeal to the younger audience of their franchise with out creating content that is innapropritate for them to play. This could also potentially attracts a new gamers to the franchise because they are not restricting their audience to those who are over the age of eighteen.

These games also show that the company are broadening the range of devices their franchise can be accessed on. The fact that Ubisoft have developed additions to the franchise that are available on Android and IOS shows that they are trying to compete with the numerous app producers that could be taking players away from the console and onto phones and tablets. Again, it brings a new audience for downloading the 'Assassin's Creed: Rebellion' app is a cheaper alternative to purchasing the console games in the main series, which appeals to those more casual gamers who want to have the Assassin's Creed but do not necessarily what to invest £30 on a game or those who have a preference for mobile gaming in general.
The format of the Assassin's Creed franchise is that the narrative takes place in real life historical eras with real events and historical figures. For instance, games have been set in the Italian Renassiance, the French Revolution and Victorian London. This is what gives each game it's individuality apart from previous games for the setting influences aspects of the gameplay, such as locates, characters, events, weapons and outfits. In each addition to the franchise, players take on the role of a new assassin, which makes each game refreshing due to the fact that the characters are not the same in each game which makes for a franchise that is constantly evolving and adding to itself instead of repeating the same thing over and over again.
By developing a franchise in a way that means each new addition to it brings something new means that they are creating potential for themselves to take their sequels and spin-offs in any direction they choose to due to the fact that they are not restricted to characters, location or narrative.
